Our Story
Our principal, Maureen Garvey, established Garvey School of Dance after relocating to the Macleay Valley from Melbourne in 1983. Originally opening studios in Smithtown, Gladstone, South West Rocks and Eungai Creek, GSOD now calls a two-room studio in Edinburgh Lane, Kempsey, home.
Offering classes in jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, hip hop, boys-only hip hop, acrobatics, Irish dance and cheerleading, GSOD is a welcoming dance school that caters to all levels of dancers. Whether your child is a beginner, or is looking to challenge their ability by participating in our yearly Australian Teacher of Dance exams, they are sure to experience the joy of dance by participating in our classes. We are proud to offer inclusive classes that can be adapted to allow for children with disabilities to participate.
Our teachers are former students of GSOD who have returned to teach the next generation of dancers. They are experienced, passionate and qualified dancers in their own right who are now passing their knowledge onto our students.
Each year we are proud to present our dance spectacular, where students can show off their new skills and dances to their friends and family.
